Summer 2024 Positions

The goal of the program is to provide English language instruction for English learners through reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities using content-based themes.

Explorer Summer Learning (ELSL) Classroom Teacher

Description: Provides and is accountable for the planning, assessment, instruction, communication, human relations, safety, and management of Explorers classroom. Ensures differentiation and accommodations to students.  Ability to attend all face-to-face or virtual training provided prior to and during the session.             

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education. Endorsement in English as a Second Language PreK-12, preferred. Experience teaching ESOL and/or multilingual learners in Title I elementary schools, preferred.  Knowledge of ESOL teaching theory and methods; proficiency in the use of technology; excellent communication skills.

Dates: 7/1 – 7/26

Explorer Summer Learning Instructional Assistant

Description: Performs a variety of paraprofessional curriculum and instructional tasks to support teachers and other professional staff in an English Learner classroom setting; assists with the daily management and small group support of the students and classroom; assists with other duties as assigned by the administration. Ability to attend all face-to-face or virtual training provided prior to and during the session.  

Qualifications: Graduation from high school or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with school staff and students; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Candidates who are multilingual and/or have multicultural experience preferred.
