Student Athletics

Find out the requirements for participating in high school sports in FCPS.

Students and parents will need to complete several steps prior to participating in high school sports, including:

  • A completed VHSL Pre-Participation Exam Form. The exam must be completed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant using the VHSL form and completed on or after May 1 in order to be valid for the next school year.
  • Student-athletes in FCPS are required to be covered by medical insurance.  If your student is not covered by another plan, there is a link below to an option.
  • Each student-athlete and a parent/guardian must go through an online registration process that includes the state-mandated concussion education program and Emergency Care Card information before they may try-out for an athletic team at the high school.  Each high school has a unique registration site.  Visit the specific high school's athletic/activities internet site to find this.  Specific questions can be addressed by the Director of Student Activities at the high school.
