The Office of Design and Construction Services (D&C) solicits bids for projects that include new school construction, renovations/additions to existing buildings (capital bond improvement projects), minor improvement (facility modifications), and installation/relocation of temporary classroom facilities in accordance with Fairfax County Public Schools' educational specifications and building codes.

Bidding Documents

Unless otherwise noted in the project advertisement, bidding documents are available at Gatehouse Administration Center, 8115 Gatehouse Road, Suite 3400, Falls Church, VA 22042, Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (except holidays).

Bid Information

All bids for the Office of Design and Construction Services must be dated and time-stamped at the Gatehouse Administration Center, 8115 Gatehouse Road, Suite 3400, Falls Church, VA 22042. It is the contractor's responsibility to make sure mailed bids are delivered, dated, and time-stamped prior to the bid opening. Bids received after the date and time stated in the solicitation will not be accepted. Public bid openings are held at the Gatehouse Administration Center, 8115 Gatehouse Road, Falls Church, VA 22042. In the event of inclement weather that closes Fairfax County Public Schools Administrative Offices, bids will be due and opened at the same time the following business day.  To confirm closing, please visit www.fcps.edu.

Architectural & Engineering Contracts for Capital Bond Improvement Projects

Architectural & Engineering (A&E) contracts are administered by the Office of Design and Construction Services. A&E firms are solicited for the design of Capital Bond (school) Improvement Projects every two years through the Request for Proposal (RFP) process. An RFP is issued and advertised on this website prior to the November general election in which school improvement projects are included for bond approval.

Pre-Qualification Applications

Fairfax County Public Schools, Office of Design and Construction Services accepts prequalification applications from general contractors for Capital Bond Construction/Improvement Projects. Prequalification applications (provided below) may be submitted for approval no later than 60 days prior to an established bid opening as advertised within the Current Solicitations Section.

Facilities Modification Projects

The Office of Design and Construction Services may have requirements for small facility modifications to school buildings or administrative facilities. These projects may require basic services from electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, general contractors, as well as other trades. These requirements are generally under $5,000.00, but can range to $50,000. Contractors may be solicited through a direct quote process or through the competitive sealed bidding process. 

Direct quote requests, based on time and material rates, may be sent directly to contractors who are approved. Contractors who would like to be approved, must complete and submit a Contractor Application Form provided below.
