Substitute Teaching Job Opportunities

We are always looking for enthusiastic, engaged, and dedicated substitute teachers and instructional assistants!

Make a “SUB”stantial difference in FCPS

We are always looking for kind and caring substitute teachers and substitute instructional assistants to ensure our students continue to thrive when teachers and instructional assistants need to be out of the classroom.  FCPS substitutes provide consistency and continuity for our students and make a “SUB”stantial difference in our schools!

FCPS Offers Substitutes the Following Benefits

  • Opportunities to make a difference in the lives of our students.
  • Flexible work schedules and locations that are tailored to substitute needs.
  • Paid professional development.
  • Professional relationships with FCPS staff.
  • Pathways that can lead to a full-time career in FCPS.
  • Assistance with teacher licensure.
  • Health/Dental benefits for substitutes who work an average of 30 hours a week under the Affordable Care Act.

Work More and Earn a Bonus!

The Fairfax County School Board has a bonus program for substitutes who accept more than the 10 required days. FCPS has developed milestones for the number of days worked. A day is defined as a 3-hour job or 7-hour job.  For each milestone, you will earn a bonus. If you meet all three milestones, your total bonus will be $900.

  • For substitutes who work 50 substitute jobs within a school year, a $200 bonus will be paid.

  • For substitutes who work 100 substitute jobs within a school year, a $300 bonus will be paid.

  • For substitutes who work 150 substitute jobs within a school year, a $400 bonus will be paid.

Bonuses will be paid quarterly, according to the chart below.
