Free and Reduced-Price Meals

Learn more about the criteria and process to apply for free or reduced-priced breakfast and lunch.

As of October 31, 2020 approximately 34 percent of students in FCPS qualify for free and reduced-price meals. The prices for paid breakfast and lunch are determined by the School Board and the price of reduced-price meals are established by the federal government.

Families who earn less than 130 percent of the poverty level are eligible for free meals and those with incomes between 130 and 185 percent of poverty level qualify for reduced-price meals.

  • The free and reduced meals application includes an online application for parents to submit the application electronically for faster processing.

    • The online application can be completed on mobile devices.
    • If an email address is provided, notification will be e-mailed regarding approval.

Paper free and reduced meals applications are still available to complete and submit.

Paper free and reduced-price meals applications are available to all households at school offices, school cafeterias, and other FCPS buildings or by contacting Food and Nutrition Services at 703-813-4800 or 703-813-4844.

Students who qualify for reduced-price meals receive breakfast and lunch at no cost. Food and Nutrition Services will absorb these costs.

Consent to Share Information

This letter informs parents that their children may be eligible to participate in several fee-based programs at either no cost or a reduced cost if they participate in the free and reduced-price meals program, and provide a consent to share information form.

The free and reduced-price meals application also includes a section with the consent to share information for other programs. If section four of the application is completed the Consent to Share Information form does not need to be filled out.
