Summer Learning: Online Campus

Grades 7-12

Registration for most classes begins January 18, 2022 and ends June 10, 2022.

Middle and high school students who meet the course prerequisites can take one online course. Students who have completed a high school math course may take an online campus math class. Middle school students who expunged a high school math or Spanish course or those wanting to recover a course credit may take the course again.

Students need to have a computer and make sure their computer is ready for the online course. Students will not be able to take online courses using tablets and smartphones.

Online Campus courses and classes may be cancelled if they are under enrolled. If a course or class is cancelled, students will be notified using the registration contact information and a full refund will be given.

Parents or guardians should ask their child’s counselor to make sure the course aligns with the student’s plan.

Work Based Learning Internship

Eligibility 

High school student who are seeking 1.0 new credit.

Registration 

Students must register by June 1, 2022.

Students register for the course through ACE.

Grading  

This course is pass-fail only. The final grade will be determined based on the completion of the assignments and the required 280 work hours.

Student Work Expectations  

Internship is a Work-Based Learning experience that places the student in a real workplace environment to develop and practice career-related knowledge and bring together skills and knowledge for a specific career field related to the student’s career interests, abilities, and goals. Internships may be paid or unpaid. Meaningful and authentic connections are made to classroom learning and accompanied by structured reflection activities. Students participating in internships should achieve a minimum of 280 hours of work experience and are guided by a formal, written training plan that defines specific academic and workplace skills to be mastered. Credit for internship experiences during the summer should be based upon the student’s successful completion of the internship course and continuous, satisfactory employment throughout the summer.

Prerequisites

Students must have completed a Career and Technical Education (CTE) course during the school year. The internship experience should be connected to the related CTE course and align with the student’s specific academic and career plan (ACP). Student is responsible for securing an internship position with an employer. Internships will not be provided by FCPS.

Economics and Personal Finance (Not Self-Directed EPF)

The Economics and Personal Finance course with Online Campus:

  • has a teacher guiding instruction.
  • has a daily 1-hour synchronous class session.
  • has daily assignments and assessments.
  • may be taken for a letter grade or pass/fail.

Students have the option to earn a letter grade or a "Pass/Fail" grade, which students must indicate at the time of registration.

This is not the self-directed Economics and Personal Finance course, which can only be taken as pass/fail.

Mathematics: Algebra I Repeat Credit for Current Middle Schoolers

Eligibility and Course Details

Current FCPS middle school students who complete Algebra 1 or Honors Algebra 1 during the 2021-22 school year will be able to take the online campus summer Algebra 1 course for repeat credit, to improve their understanding of course content, and to improve their grade. Middle school students may use this summer online course to expunge their 2021-22 school-year grade. Students will complete the appropriate SOL test at the end of the course if needed. No honors credit will be awarded. The course will run for five weeks, and students will meet with their instructors, virtually, for one hour each day.
