Summer is a great time to fulfill the Economics and Personal Finance course requirement.

Course Information

Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance requires students to complete work without direct teacher support.

  • This course is asynchronous.
  • This course is self-directed.
  • Students will access content for this course through FCPS Schoology.
  • Students will have a facilitator but no direct teacher support.
  • Students will read through 14 modules, complete 140 exit tickets, 14 module tests, and a final exam.
  • Students may only take this course as "Pass/Fail".
  • Students will have the opportunity to take the Financial Literacy (W!SE) certification exam at their base school. It is highly recommended that all students take the W!SE exam following the completion of the course.

Eligibility

Current FCPS Students (Grades 9-12)*

*Current FCPS 12th graders are eligible if they are graduating in August of 2024. Current FCPS students who will be in grade 9 in 2024-25 are eligible but must discuss the course with their school counselor and parent/guardian before registering.

*Students attending TJHSST from outside Fairfax County Public Schools are not eligible to take this course until the summer after their 9th grade year.

*Students who are not enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools are not eligible to take this course.

Refunds

On-Time Refund Request

  • FCPS will process a full refund if the request is received by 11:59 p.m. on June 18.

Late Refund Request

  • Refund requests received after June 18 and before 11:59 p.m. on June 20 will be assessed a late cancellation fee of $25.
  • No refund requests received after 11:59 p.m. on June 20 will be approved.
