Frequently Asked Questions

How are FCPS ACE classes different from FCPS Summer Learning and Extended School Year classes?

Students taking classes through the Extended School Year (ESY) and FCPS Summer Learning programs will earn academic credits to help them toward graduation requirements.  Examples of these classes are Credit Recovery, Institute for the Arts (IFTA) and Elementary IFTA (eIFTA), Online Campus, Tech Adventure and Career and Techincal Education (CTE) Academy.  Students taking these classes must be an FCPS student. ACE assists these programs by providing registration services, but these programs are managed by FCPS departments other than ACE.

ACE classes are offered to FCPS and non-FCPS K-12 students alike. Our classes do not directly result in academic grades but can help students increase their confidence and knowledge. This in turn may help students get better grades. Parents enrolling their student in an ACE class will be required to complete an emergency contact form with ACE. Parents may also be required to complete additional forms depending on the nature of the class. For example, students will need to submit a form giving details about food allergies for a culinary class.

How are ACE classes different from Online Tutoring Services through Tutor.com?

In April 2022, FCPS began to offer an online tutoring service to FCPS K-12 students.

ACE classes are offered to FCPS and non-FCPS students. Some of our classes are offered on-line, and some are offered in-person. Classes offered in-person are held at different FCPS locations including Pimmit Hills Center and the Plum Center. Parents enrolling their student in an in-person ACE class will be required to complete an emergency contact form with ACE.

Depending on the class, additional forms may be needed. For example, students will need submit a form giving details about food allergies for a culinary class.

What is needed to enroll K-12 students in ACE Classes?

Parents enrolling their student in an ACE class will be required to complete an emergency contact form with ACE. Depending on the class, additional forms may be needed. For example, students will need submit a form giving details about food allergies for a culinary class.

Students must be signed-in and signed-out by a qualified adult for each scheduled session of the class.

Exception: If a student is at least 12 years old at the date of the class AND the parent or legal guardian has provided ACE written approval for the student to sign themselves in and out, then ACE will not require a qualified adult to sign them in or out.

If a student will miss, be late, or need to leave early from a scheduled in-person class, the parent or legal guardian will need to notify ACE of this in writing.

Are you looking for Extended School Year (ESY), e-IFTA, or Tech Adventure classes during the summer?

ACE processes registrations for these programs but do not run these programs. These programs are coordinated by different departments at FCPS.
