Summer Learning Programs: Online Programs

Grades 7-12

Online courses are open to eligible high and middle school students who meet prerequisites and technical requirements. Students may take only one online course. Courses are rigorous; therefore, students should consult their counselor and discuss the implications of attempting an online course before registering. For mathematics courses, all students who have completed a high school mathematics course may accelerate or earn credit recovery via the online campus. Middle school students who have expunged a high school mathematics credit as well as those seeking credit recovery may retake the course via the online campus. Middle school students may not take a mathematics course during the summer as their first high school level mathematics course. Students will not be able to access and fully complete online courses using iPads, iPhones, smart phones, and tablets. Currently, Macs are not supported in FCPS. However, students do use Macs to take online courses. Students need to complete the technology checklist to ensure their computer can assess all parts of the online course.

Online Campus courses and classes may be cancelled if they are under enrolled. If a course or class is cancelled, students will be notified using the registration contact information provided and a full refund will be given.

Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance

The Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance course requires students to complete work without direct teacher instruction. All material will be available on FCPS 24-7, and a suggested schedule (3-5 units per week) will be provided. Students who don’t stay on pace will receive communication from the course’s facilitator. The facilitator will also contact parents of students who are not on pace with the suggested schedule. There is no grade penalty unless the student fails to complete all tests successfully by the end of the course. This course is available to current FCPS students only. Students must have a working computer and access to the internet, along with access to FCPS 24-7. Students must have a valid email address and one for their parent/guardian. All communication will be via email and FCPS 24-7. For questions and information about the Self-Paced course, contact the Career and Technical Education office.
