Thank you for your interest in Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST). Making the decision to pursue admission to a selective secondary high school is not an easy one to make and we want you to know the Admissions Office is here to support you. Our goal is to ensure that all students and families are provided the same level of information in order to successfully navigate the process. We believe the best way to begin this journey is through open communication between our prospective students and their parents. We look forward to assisting you and exposing you to all TJHSST offers to students interested in STEM.
The process of selecting a high school can be challenging and exciting. We encourage you to contact our office if you have any questions or concerns.
The application window for current eighth-grade students has changed. We will post the updated window as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and know that students and families look forward to beginning the process that will hopefully provide them with an opportunity to attend TJHSST. We anticipate we will update this information after September 15th.

Listed below is a compilation of the recent meetings that have been held to discuss the admissions process. Based upon the School Board Work Session discussion on October 6, the school board consensus was that testing (Quant-Q, ACT Aspire Reading and Science) will be eliminated for this year, the application fee will be eliminated and there will be an increase in student enrollment at TJHSST. We do not have a window for the application process at this time. The next scheduled School Board Work Session to discuss additional changes is currently set for November 17.
Superintendent Presents Recommendations to Improve Diversity at TJHSST by Establishing Merit Lottery Admissions Process
Superintendent Scott S. Brabrand has presented recommendations to the Fairfax County School Board to revise the admissions policy at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST), the governor’s regional school, in order to promote access to historically underserved students. The Board is required to submit a report to Virginia Governor Ralph Northam by October 1 of each year on its diversity goals and status of those goals for its student body and faculty.
