North TIER is a unique partnership of school divisions in Northern Virginia that provides high-quality, online professional development. Fairfax County Public School is a member of the North TIER Partnership.

Course Information:

  • North TIER holds course in the fall, winter, spring, and summer. Check the North TIER website for dates of the current and upcoming semester.
  • Courses do have a fee. See the course catalog for details.
  • Courses are 15 or 30 hours of work and earn either 15 or 30 hours towards recertification.
    • Spanish for Educators courses and 15-hour courses are only available for recertification hours. These courses cannot earn graduate credit.
  • North TIER partners with Colorado State University to provide a graduate credit option. Successful completion will earn 2 graduate credits from Colorado State University Online. This optional track has additional requirements and fees. You will be able to register for the graduate credit option during the first week of class. Participants are eligible for either recertification or graduate credit but not both.

Course Fee and Refund Information

  • The course fee is based on the length of the course. See the course catalog for details.
  • Fees are due before the course begins.
  • North TIER does not charge fees to those that drop before the end of registration.
  • North TIER offers a 90% refund for those dropping during the drop period, which is from the end of registration until 7 days after initial notification from your instructor.
  • There is no refund after the drop period.

Online Class Information

  • Participants do not need to be online at a certain time of the day, nor a set time each week.
  • During the first day of the online course week, the instructor will post an assignment.
  • Class participants must engage in course work multiple times during the week to complete the activities, build products, and participate in the discussion board.
  • Participants can expect to spend at least 4-6 hours each week completing class activities.
  • Graduate credit requires completion of all work and discussion, plus an additional thirty hours of work in reflection and action planning.
    • Recertification and salary advancement credit requires a Colorado State University transcript.
    • MyPDE does not store college transcripts or credit.

Note: North TIER requests that participants share their knowledge and participate in surveys. All sessions take place online. All projects are due on or before the final date of the course. For more information contact Aron Sterling.
