Seven FCPS Teams, 16 Individuals Win VHSL Spring 2023 Sports Championships

Congratulations to all the FCPS student-athletes who participated in the 2023 spring sports season. This year, seven teams and 16 individuals won the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 6 championship in their respective sports, and four teams and 15 individuals were the state runners-up. Madison Boys Lacrosse and Langley Girls Tennis were repeat champions.

The teams winning the championship were:

  • Madison High School, Baseball. 
  • Oakton High School, Girls Lacrosse.
  • Madison High School, Boys Lacrosse.
  • McLean High School, Softball (pictured above).
  • Langley High School, Girls Tennis.
  • Langley High School, Boys Tennis. 
  • South County High School, Girls Outdoor Track.

The individuals winning the championship were: 

  • Catalina Sanchious, South County High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls 100 Meter Dash.
  • Catalina Sanchious, South County High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls 200 Meter Dash.
  • Kenza Elakari, West Springfield High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls 800 Meter Run
  • Gillian Bushee, Herndon High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls 1600 Meter Run.
  • Gillian Bushee, Herndon High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls 3200 Meter Run.
  • South County High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls 4x400 Meter Relay-Champion.
  • South Lakes High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls 4x800 Meter Relay
  • Rae Hicok, Robinson Secondary School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls High Jump.
  • Harry Economon, Robinson Secondary School, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys 400 Meter Dash.
  • Iyasu Yemane, Oakton High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys 800 Meter Run.
  • Pablo Molla Mingo, Robinson Secondary School, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys 4x400 Meter Relay.
  • Robinson Secondary School, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys 4x400 Meter Relay.
  • South County High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys 4x800 Meter Relay. 
  • Aditya Gupta and Nikola Galov, Langley High School, Tennis, Boys Doubles.
  • Simone Bergeron, Madison High School, Tennis, Girls Singles.
  • Noelle Talarek and Zosia Henryson-Gibbs, Langley High School, Tennis, Girls Doubles. 

The teams that were state runners-up were:

  • Westfield High School, Baseball. 
  • Madison High School, Softball.
  • West Springfield High School, Boys Outdoor Track.
  • Lewis High School, Boys Soccer. 

The individuals who were state runners-up were:

  • Cameron Thompson, South County High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls 100 Meter Dash.

  • Caroline Elliot, South Lakes High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls 800 Meter Dash.  
  • Thaïs Rolly, McLean High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls 3200 Meter Run.
  • West Springfield High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls 4x800 Meter Relay.
  • Johanna Stuard, Westfield High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls High Jump.
  • Julia Dial, Edison High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Girls Triple Jump.
  • Jayson Bell, Westfield High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys 200 Meter Dash.
  • Junior Allen, Oakton High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys 1600 Meter Run.
  • Oakton High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys 4x800 Meter Relay.
  • Michael Murray, West Springfield High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys Pole Vault.
  • Daunte Lord, West Springfield High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys Long Jump.
  • Nader Chirchi, Edison High School, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys Discus Throw.
  • Deana Sultanaeva/Carly Mew, Robinson Secondary School, Tennis, Girls Doubles.
