School Board Meeting Highlights - April 25, 2024

At 7:00 p.m., the National Anthem was performed by the FCPS Parents Orchestra under the direction of Austin Johnson and Annie Ray.

The School Board approved proclamations honoring Autism Affirmation Month and Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The School Board honored 2023-2024 National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT), including 14 educators who achieved status as an NBCT and 21 educators who renewed status as an NBCT.

The School Board heard from 7 members of the public during Community Participation.

Student Representative Rida Karim presented Student Representative Matters to the School Board.

Superintendent Reid presented the Strategic Plan Goal 2 Baseline Report. The School Board approved the Goal 2 Baseline Report as the division’s starting point for the work toward achieving the goals in our Strategic Plan 2023-30.

Superintendent Reid and Dr. Edmunds-Heard, Assistant Superintendent of Special Services, presented the 2024-2025 IDEA Special Education Annual Plan. The School Board approved the 2024-2025 Special Education Annual Plan and its related applications.

The School Board voted to defer action on the Community Advisory Committee Operating Manual so that feedback from the School Board's advisory committees could be heard incorporated into the document.

The School Board also approved additional School Board Advisory Committee Appointments, minutes of the March 7, 2024 and April 11, 2024 meetings, the Monthly Report on Employee Separation, the Quarterly Appointments and Separations Report, and several contracts.

Superintendent Reid presented a monitoring report on Executive Limitation-11: Facilities and Transportation. The School Board found that the Superintendent has made adequate progress towards compliance with EL-11. In a related action, the School Board voted to maintain Executive Limitation 11: Facilities and Transportation, as it is currently detailed in the Strategic Governance Manual.

Superintendent Reid presented a monitoring report on Executive Limitation-13: Safety and Security. The Board found that the Superintendent has made adequate progress towards compliance with EL-13. In a related action, the School Board voted to maintain Executive Limitation 13: Safety and Security, as it is currently detailed in the Strategic Governance Manual.

Superintendent Reid presented Academic Matters, a Strategic Plan Update, and Superintendent Matters to the School Board.

Finally, the School Board regular meeting concluded with Committee Reports and Board Matters.
