Equity in Education Month—Month-Long Virtual Summit

March 4, 2022

The Virginia School Boards Association has declared March to be Equity in Education Month. School Board members, superintendents, teachers, and families can play a critical role in creating inclusive school cultures that affirm, engage, and empower all students.

The Equity and Cultural Responsiveness team has developed a Month-Long Virtual Equity Summit with learning opportunities offered throughout March. Staff members can choose to participate in facilitated learning sessions or design their own professional learning path based on weekly themes.

The complete list of professional development opportunities is available online.

Women's History Month: Instructional Resources

March 3, 2022

Each year, March is designated Women’s History Month by Presidential proclamation in order to honor women’s contributions in American history. Students deserve meaningful, sustained opportunities to learn about the experiences and contributions of diverse women and girls year-round, and Women’s History Month is one opportunity to honor these important stories.

To support teachers and school divisions to that end, FCPS Social Studies, in collaboration with a group of educators across subject areas, developed an internal site for instructional resources: Planning for Women’s History Month. Teachers and school leaders will find ideas for classroom learning experiences across content areas and grade levels, as well as details on upcoming virtual events. Schools may consider if information is shared through classes, news programs, or in other settings, as long as all students are provided the opportunity to learn about and acknowledge this important recognition.
