Volunteer in FCPS

Make a difference in the lives of students across FCPS

Every day, volunteers change the lives of students across FCPS and we offer several ways for people in the community to get involved.

Examples of volunteer opportunities in FCPS include:

Adult English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Volunteers help adult ESOL students who are new to the United States and our public education system adjust to the challenges of living in a new culture and using a new language. Successful Adult ESOL volunteers are patient, enjoy working with others, and are interested in education and different cultures. Volunteers should be fluent English speakers and understand American culture. Contact: Jennifer Beilke for more information on assisting students in Adult ESOL classes.

Business and Community Partnerships allow organizations to engage.  We encourage and support the development of partnerships that strengthen and enhance the quality of education and community connectedness.  Our Business and Community Partnerships team helps establish Ignite Partnerships, and we promote them so that there are some defined returns on your investment.

Citizen Advisory Committees are wonderful places for community members to provide advice to FCPS leaders.  You can find more information on the School Board page.

Family Members Looking to Volunteer at their child’s school should call the school’s main office for information about their volunteer program. Schools and Centers

Mentor a Student through our school-based MentorWorks program.  Established in 1999, the MentorWorks program provides students with a caring, responsible adult while focusing on helping students develop their strengths and capabilities so that the student can reach their full potential. Training is available and required.

Students Looking to Volunteer in FCPS and elsewhere to meet the requirements of their service learning hours can find information on the Service Learning page.

Volunteer Learning Program or VLP is sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, and the Fairfax County Public Library. It is a tutoring program designed to meet the educational needs of Fairfax County adults by supporting the three FCPS adult high school completion programs (GED®, National External Diploma Program, and Fairfax County Adult High School), as well as the educational needs of certain juveniles without a high school diploma. VLP staff is committed to providing its tutors with a rewarding, well-supported volunteer experience

Background Checks for Volunteers

Background Checks are required for volunteers because student safety is of utmost importance.
