National Board Certification 2020-21
A NBPTS certification support course will begin in September 2020. Search “National Board” in MyPDE.
The National Board Certification 2020-21 course is designed to support candidates seeking National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Certification by unpacking the standards and requirements to develop an online portfolio to be assessed by NBPTS. Portfolio components include a focus on differentiation, the learning environment, student assessments, effective and reflective practice in addition to content knowledge specific to the area of certification. Throughout the year long course, teachers will engage in collaboration, communication, and reflective practice. The course format includes whole group instruction, small group collaboration, and support by National Board Certified Teachers.
Throughout the year-long course, teachers utilize reflective practice to identify their ability to assess student growth through formative and summative assessment, create a safe and equitable learning environment, plan and implement engaging learning activities, and utilize collaboration and communication to meet the requirements of NBPTS certification. The course format includes whole group instruction and small group collaboration to create personalized portfolios that reflect the professional practice of FCPS teachers.
The active FCPS National Board Teacher registration deadline is September 24, 2020. Active National Board Certified Teachers who fail to meet the deadline may not be eligible for the 2020-21 VDOE incentive award.
