Dear Parent/Guardian:

Your student recently took a Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) screener assessment for reading and/or mathematics.

  • Reading Inventory is a computerized assessment that evaluates students’ reading ability. The Reading Inventory generates a reader Lexile® (L) score. FCPS uses the Lexile to monitor reading progress over time. Teachers and school staff may use results to help plan appropriate instruction and support.
  • Math Inventory is a computerized test that assesses students’ mathematics understanding along a developmental continuum. The Math Inventory generates a Quantile® (Q) score. FCPS uses the Quantile to measure growth and progress in mathematics. Teachers may use results to support students as they learn new mathematics concepts and skills.

Your student’s assessment results from the recent testing window are reported in the chart below. A student who scores at the Proficient level by the end of the school year is considered to be performing at grade level and is on track to meet the demands of college and career by the end of high school. For students whose performance is below the expected level, school staff will review available data to determine if additional assessments and/or interventions are needed. The school will communicate any next steps for your student.
