Dr. King has been Executive Principal for Region 1 since 2018.  She is an experienced educator whose track record includes leading successful instructional teams at many levels including: 

  • Executive Director for Secondary Schools, Baltimore County Public Schools
  • Assistant Superintendent for High Schools, Baltimore County Public Schools
  • Principal, Mount Vernon High School, Fairfax County Public Schools

Dr. King brings more than two decades of highly accomplished educational experience and knowledge to this position. Most recently her work included improving social, cultural, and academic outcomes for more than 113,000 students at 15 schools in Baltimore County Public Schools. Among her accomplishments in Baltimore County, Dr. King implemented the first Early College Magnet Program in the division and increased high school graduation rates each year with zero gap between black and white students. 

Dr. King launched her teaching career in Fairfax County Public Schools as a special education teacher. Dr. King earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Information Systems at Virginia State University. She holds two Master of Arts degrees in Special Education and Education Leadership from George Washington University and George Mason University. Dr. King earned her doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
