The  National Anthem was performed by the Hunt Valley Elementary School Chorus under the direction of Katherine Iooss and Jamie Carpenter-Schumaker and the presentation of the Colors by the Chantilly JROTC under the direction of Thomas E. Lambert, LT Col., USAF, Retired.

The School Board and Fort Belvoir Garrison Commander, Colonel Joseph Messina, recognized forty FCPS Purple Star Schools.  In 2018, the Virginia Department of Education established the Purple Star Designation to be awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. Criteria established for the award were designed to increase educator awareness of military connected youth and help schools structure their support to and for military connected youth and their families.
