Dear FCPS Community, 

FCPS was recently made aware of an inadvertent Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) disclosure to a parent. This happened while a parent was reviewing their student’s records at a school. 

I am very sorry that this happened. When I learned of this incident, I requested an external legal investigation. The work will include identifying affected students so that appropriate notifications can be made as quickly as possible. There will also be a review of how this happened, so that we can do a thorough review of our systems and processes. 

I will be sharing a summary once the investigation is complete, and I appreciate your patience as we work through this issue.
