Was Your Student Absent for Our Last Official School Day?
If you planned to have your child (grades K -6) complete school before June 13th, please be reminded that we requested that parents provide our office with a self-addressed, stamped envelope so that the fourth quarter progress report can be mailed after the close of the school year.  All progress reports that were not sent home in this manner were kept in the school office during the summer.  Parents may drop by to pick up the progress report.

URGENT MESSAGE for Parents of Rising 6th Grade Students
Please check your child’s immunization records carefully.  We still have over 30 students who are eligible to have this immunization completed by now who have not yet reported the necessary documentation to our school office. If your child is required to have a Tdap booster, we ask that your child receive the Tdap immunization and documentation is provided to the school prior to June 17, 2008. This documentation can be a copy of your child’s immunization record, or a note from your physician listing the date of the most recent Tdap booster shot. It is most important that you attend to this matter soon.  Rising sixth grade students cannot begin school in the fall without documentation on file at school of having had the Tdap booster or having had a tetanus-containing vaccine within the past five years.  Thank you for your attention to this procedure relating to student health!

School Start Time Survey 2008
The Fairfax County School Board is looking into the possibility of starting middle and high schools at a later time in the morning so that school schedules would correspond better to children’s sleep cycles.  The primary reason for the change would be to improve student health and academic performance. The Fairfax County Council of PTAs (FCCPTA) would like to know about your student’s school-related habits and your views on this issue. You may complete a survey at  http://www.fccpta.org/trans_survey/start_time_survey.htm. Here are some items to keep in mind as you take the survey:

  • Bell schedules (start and end times of the school day) are based on using buses to make more than one trip.
  • Now, buses are used 2 or 3 times each morning, so start times are staggered across three basic time frames.
  • Elementary schools are in all three time frames from 7:50 am to 9:25 am.
  • If bell schedules change, elementary schools would still be in all three time frames, but more elementary schools would start between 7:50 am and 8:55 am.
  • Some elementary schools would still be in the latest time frame, starting between 9:00 am and 9:40 am.
