Youth Art Month

Youth Art Month is an annual observance in March to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs.  Youth Art Month provides a forum for acknowledging skills that are fostered through experiences in the visual arts. Each year, a Gallery in the Reston Community hosts Youth Art Month.  This year it is at the Jo Ann Rose Gallery at Lake Ann Plaza. Please stop by the gallery and enjoy artwork created by our Terraset students.”

International Education Week

International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of their efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.
You can learn more about this celebration at: http://iew.state.gov/ Here at Terraset Elementary school there are students from different background who have the opportunity to share/ teach or learn about their cultures daily; from one expression to myths and legends and much folklore.
Last week of February 2014, is the week when students will be able to enjoy  and spread the fragrance of their culture and backgrounds with us. Students will express and learn from other cultures through art, music, body (PE), during FLES in Spanish, WTER (school channel) , Library time (readings) and in our Specialists ASSEMBLY on February 28.  This celebration is not about Hispanic culture but about the diversity we have in this village Terraset that is our educational world.
Students will be encouraged to share mini clips/crafts/flags/or anything relating to their cultures during that week. Our international SPIRIT DAY will be last Friday of February, when you will have the opportunity to share your heritage! All community (teachers, administrators, friends) are invited to participate and share.

Bring Your Own Device

Fairfax County Public Schools has introduced an exciting new initiative encouraging students to "bring your own device" to school. Terraset ES is embracing this initiative and encouraging students to bring in their personal computing devices to be used in the classroom. These devices include e-readers, tablets, laptops, and netbooks. Participation in this initiative is completely optional and no students will be denied equal educational opportunities should they not have or bring in their own device.

Students should FIRST check with their teachers if they are interested in bringing in their own devices, as each teacher will be able to advise them about when and for what they might need to use the personal device in class.

BEFORE being allowed to use a personal device in school, parents must complete this online registration form and students MUST bring in a signed permission form. (NOTE: Only the last 2 pages of the Personal Device Information & Permission Form need to be brought into school.) Before devices can be used at school they must be registered by the technology staff.

These forms contain detailed information about acceptable use of personally owned devices and how to register a device at Terraset Elementary:
