Highlights

  • Congratulations to senior Catherine Evans who was selected to the Virginia Music Educators Association Senior Honors Choir and Jessy Eubanks selected as an alternate. These ladies competed against hundreds of other seniors from across the state.

  • Check out the South Lakes AJROTC who has the honor of performing in the New York City Veterans Day Parade!

  • South Lakes High School Speech & Debate earning the Degree of Premier Distinction.  South Lakes is ranked among the top 10% of schools nationwide and has earned membership in the Associations prestigious 100 Club.

  • Congratulations to the three Seahawks selected to perform with the Senior Regional Orchestra. They are: Alex Arshadi – first chair percussion; Ian Champney – cello and Jenny Reid – viola.

  • Great job Kurtis Grant who qualified for the State Golf Championship! Good luck to Andrew McCool as he competes at the State Cross Country meet.

  • Senior Samantha Gifford has been selected to be a member of the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. The U.S. Army All-American Marching Band recognizes the top 125 high school senior marching musicians and color guard members from across the country, showcasing their talents during the largest celebration of high school football in America, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, televised live on NBC at 1:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, January 3, 2015.

  • Congratulations to Isabel Garvey, Allison Johnson, and Sahana Thirumazhusai who have been recognized as 2015 National Merit Semifinalists!

  • Way to go Grace Obando for being invited to attend the USA Triathlon Junior Elite Women’s Mini-Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center as one of 14 women recognized nationally as a rising young talent in the field of draft-legal triathlon racing.   

  • South Lakes was once again honored as a Blue Star School at the Money Power Conference for Financial Literacy this week in New York City.  Additionally, six of our teachers were recognized with the Gold Star teaching award from W!SE (Working in Support of Education) for achieving a 90 percent pass rate in his or her classes on the 2013-14 W!SE Financial Literacy Certification Test.

  • Kudos to the SLHS communty for being recoginzed with the Golden Wellness Award again this year.

  • Federal Impact Aid Forms: It is that time of year when FCPS sends out Federal Impact Aide forms that need to be completed for each student enrolled as of 10/31/2014. We need your help to ensure that we collect 100% of the forms. Forms were distributed to each student in 5th period on November 5. Parents: Please complete the form, sign and date it for your child to return to their 5th period teacher. Fifth period meets on Thursday for Seahawk Seminar and as well as 5th period meeting on Friday, and then Tuesday and Thursday next week. We must have all forms completed and returned by Nov. 21st. Thank you in advance for you cooperation and support! Extra forms may be downloaded from here.

  • Parents of junior and senior students who are taking IB exams in May are asked to sign a parent agreement outlining the fees charged for changes to IB courses after the registration deadline.

  • Attention all 10th graders and parents: As a part of classroom driver education instruction, students and their parent/guardian are required to attend a 90-minute (PSTD) Partner’s in Safe Teen Driving Presentation. This requirement must be met before a student will receive a Driver Education Certificate of Completion (District 8/PINK card). We will be offering our presentations on December 3rd, February 9th, and June 10th. All presentations will start @ 7PM SHARP in the Auditorium. Please arrive 15 minutes early and bring a writing utensil. *There is now a $10 replacement charge for all District 8/pink cards (the driver’s education completion card)*

  • Parent Notification of Impending Use of Remind101 Educational Texting Service ...a new free online service that will allow us to send school-related text messages to you and your child.

  • Kiss & Ride is located on the STADIUM side both mornings and afternoons this school year. Please click this link to see a map. It is critical that drop offs happen in the designated zone and not just at the spot closest to the door. To assist with the flow of traffic it will be right turn only out of this lot during peak hours in the monring and afternoon. Parents should not be dropping students off on the main office side of the building.

  • Parents of FCPS students may update contact information online through weCare@School http://www.fcps.edu/news/wecare.shtml , a feature of FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard) or by contacting the student information officer at their child(ren)'s school to have the contact information updated in the student information system.
