• Congratulations to Sara Vigen for being honored at The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum 10th Annual Student-Athlete Achievement Banquet as one of four Student-Athlete of the Year award winners. The event honored some of the state’s great student-athletes nominated by their coaches and administrators at the high school level and were chosen as winners by the selection committee consisting of Hall of Fame Inductees and board members.

  • A big thank you to the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) who has donated $1000 to support the SLHS Rocketry Club!

  • Congratulations to senior Catherine Evans who was selected to the Virginia Music Educators Association Senior Honors Choir and Jessy Eubanks selected as an alternate. These ladies competed against hundreds of other seniors from across the state.

  • South Lakes High School Speech & Debate earning the Degree of Premier Distinction.  South Lakes is ranked among the top 10% of schools nationwide and has earned membership in the Associations prestigious 100 Club.

  • South Lakes is proud of our Gold Star Army JROTC program.

  • Senior Samantha Gifford has been selected to be a member of the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. The U.S. Army All-American Marching Band recognizes the top 125 high school senior marching musicians and color guard members from across the country, showcasing their talents during the largest celebration of high school football in America, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, televised live on NBC at 1:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, January 3, 2015.

  • The South Lakes Latin students were competitive in the Virginia Junior Classical League Convention this year where over 2000 students participated.  Congratulations to: Anton Coghlan, Mary McDonald, Katie Hall, Jenny Wu, Omar Farooq, and Thomas Hall, who won 3rd place in Street Certamen , a Latin speed bowl type competition.  South Lakes students also took 1st place in the small delegation Spirit Competition. Twelve SLHS students placed in individual competitions.

  • South Lakes was once again honored as a Blue Star School at the Money Power Conference for Financial Literacy this week in New York City.  Additionally, six of our teachers were recognized with the Gold Star teaching award from W!SE (Working in Support of Education) for achieving a 90 percent pass rate in his or her classes on the 2013-14 W!SE Financial Literacy Certification Test.

  • Parents of junior and senior students who are taking IB exams in May are asked to sign a parent agreement outlining the fees charged for changes to IB courses after the registration deadline.

  • Curriculum Night for 2014-15 is now scheduled for Wednesday, January 21st at 6:30p.m. There will be a new format this year so stay tuned for more details. Parents and students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to attend.

  • Attention all 10th graders and parents: As a part of classroom driver education instruction, students and their parent/guardian are required to attend a 90-minute (PSTD) Partner’s in Safe Teen Driving Presentation. This requirement must be met before a student will receive a Driver Education Certificate of Completion (District 8/PINK card). We will be offering our presentations on February 9th and June 10th. All presentations will start @ 7PM SHARP in the Auditorium. Please arrive 15 minutes early and bring a writing utensil. *There is now a $10 replacement charge for all District 8/pink cards (the driver’s education completion card)*

  • Kiss & Ride is located on the STADIUM side both mornings and afternoons this school year. Please click this link to see a map. It is critical that drop offs happen in the designated zone and not just at the spot closest to the door. To assist with the flow of traffic it will be right turn only out of this lot during peak hours in the monring and afternoon. Parents should not be dropping students off on the main office side of the building.
