WEDNESDAY COLLABORATION/REMEDIATION
Change in Collaboration Schedule: December 23 is a two-hour early release day; therefore, we will not have Collaboration on that date.  English remediation scheduled for the 23rd of December is now assigned to December 16th.

THANKSGIVING PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCES
November 25th is a non-collaboration Wednesday and an early release day for all students.  If you plan to pick up your student before the scheduled early dismissal time, please send in a note to the Burgundy or Gold office prior to that morning.  Please do not call the office to have your student released early.  At this time, we are accepting notes for early dismissal for the week of November 23rd.

FEDERAL IMPACT AID
Each year the presence of federal activity in Virginia affects Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) operating budget.  The school system is requesting your assistance in identifying federally connected students for the Impact Aid federal grant program.  FCPS uses the Student-Parent Survey to complete this effort.  Beginning November 9, 2009, the survey will be distributed to all FCPS families and available online (PDF format).
Impact Aid is a federal grant program that was designed to lessen the impact of federal activity on the operating budgets of local school systems.  FCPS receives approximately $3,500,000 annually from this grant program.  These funds become a part of the school system’s general operating budget and are critical to sustaining the high quality of education that FCPS provides for your children. For each school-age student in your household, please complete,, sign, and date the survey  and return the completed survey to your child’s school by November 14, 2009.  The information that you provide will be treated confidentially. If you need additional information, please call 703-329-7655 to speak with a Department of Information Technology staff member.  Additional information about the Impact Aid program is available on the U.S. Department of Education web site at http://www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/oese/impactaid/index.html

ATTENDANCE PHONE-OUT AND E-MAIL
Starting this year, Oakton High School and all Fairfax County Public Schools will use an automated attendance system to contact parents or guardians regarding students’ unverified or unexcused all day or period absences.  An automated phone call to the home phone and email will be sent on the day of the absence.  Automated messages will be sent only to students whose absences are still unverified or unexcused at 4:00 p.m.
Please notify the school before 9:30 a.m. by phone each day that your student is absent or late: Attendance hotline 703-319-2727 (24 hour recording)
