Japanese Immersion Program Information Sessions
An information session is scheduled for Tuesday January 12th at 7:00 PM for prospective parents who wish to place their rising 1st grade child in the partial-immersion Japanese program at Fox Mill ES. At that meeting parents will learn about the Japanese immersion program at Fox Mill and have an opportunity to register to attend the open house on Thursday January 21st.
Fox Mill will also provide an opportunity for parents to observe instruction in the first grade Japanese Partial-Immersion classroom. This visit is offered to parents who are considering this program for the 2010-11 school year for their rising 1st graders. If you would like to participate, you must sign up either by adding your name to the list that will be available at the informational meeting (January 12 at 7:00 p.m.), or by calling the school office at (703) 262-2700. The observation is limited to parents only.
Spots in the Japanese immersion program are assigned by lottery. Registration for the lottery is open from January 4, 2010 thru February 16, 2010. Register online: www.fcps.edu/DIS/OHSICS/forlang/partial.htm.
SOL Test Dates Released
Dates for when the Virginia Standards of Learning tests will be administered to students in grades 3-6 at Fox Mill have been released. Parents can view the details here and are asked to refer to the dates and avoid making doctors appointments or taking their child out of school on a day a test is being administered to their child's class.
Fox Mill Classes Ring in the Japanese New Year
Students at Fox Mill will be celebrating the Japanese New Year with their class during the next few weeks. They will be participating in activities such as a traditional Japanese new year game Fukuwarai, eating mochi balls, folding origami and writing messages in calligraphy.
Fox Mill Inagural Science Fair - February 9th
3rd - 6th grade students at Fox Mill ES will be participating in the school's first Science Fair, on Tuesday February 9th from 6-8 PM. All students are encouraged to participate. The registration deadline is January 23rd. A registration form and more information is available.
