Top Stories at Floris

Open House

Thursday, August 28th, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Student classroom assignments will be mailed to your homes. This is a great time for students and parents to meet staff, reconnect with school friends, and tour the building.

Families new to Floris are also invited to a Newcomers’ Orientation at 1:00 p.m. in the cafeteria on August 28th.

Full Length Mondays

Beginning in September, all Fairfax County elementary schools will have a standard length of day Monday through Friday.  This means that we will no longer have early release on Monday afternoons.  Floris Elementary will begin at 9:05 and dismiss at 3:55 Monday through Friday.

Read, read, read!

Have your children pick out some favorites, even if they want to reread books they already know.  Read with your child and talk about the stories to increase fluency and deeper thinking.  As an incentive, the public library has a program to encourage children to read.  To sign up, go to http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/srp/    An online resource that will keep your child reading can be found at MyOn Books
