Early Childhood

Learn how our Early Childhood program prepare students for kindergarten and aligns with the Portrait of a Graduate outcomes.

A child's early years are essential in developing a foundation for school success. FCPS works hard to provide programs and services that prepare young children and parents who need extra guidance and support to be ready to start kindergarten feeling confident and ready to learn. Some of the programs that FCPS offers include:

  • Child Find identifies, locates, and evaluates children residing in Fairfax County who are in need of special education and related services.
  • Early Childhood Identification & Services educates the community about child development and the importance of early intervention and provides a continuum of special education services to preschool aged children identified as requiring special education services.
  • PreK is for children 3-4 years old whose parents meet income requirements, with priority given to 4 year olds.
  • Early Head Start is for infants, toddlers or expectant mothers who meet income requirements.

As part of the strategic plan Ignite, Fairfax County Public Schools strives to provide quality Early Childhood experiences aligned with Portrait of a Graduate outcomes and designed to prepare students to successfully enter kindergarten.
