Virginia Readers Choice Reading Lists 2015-16
In order to encourage and promote reading, the Fairfax County School Board requires all students completing grades five through eleven to read at least one book during the summer months. Attached is the suggested summer reading list for rising 6th graders.
IMPORTANT NOTICE- RISING 6TH Graders
Tetenas, Diphtheria, Acellular Pertussis (Tdap)
All students in Virginia must receive a booster dose of Tdap vaccine prior to entering sixth grade.
- If your child is 11 years old, he or she must get the Tdap immunization
- If your child’s 11th birthday is after the first day of school, you child must have a medical exemption from the doctor stating when he or she will receive the Tdap immunization in order to attend school.
If your child is required to have a Tdap booster, we ask that when they receive it, you provide documentation to the school as soon as possible.
The Tdap booster can be obtained from your child’s physician. Immunizations required for school are also available at the Fairfax County Health Department at no charge. Clinic locations and walk-in hours are available online at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/hd/hdclinicsite.htm.
Your prompt attention to this matter is appreciated. Sixth graders cannot begin school in the fall without documentation of having had this immunization.
Please contact the school public health nurse, Cindy Carshult at 703-326-6569, if you have any questions. Thank you for your cooperation.

Pre-Arranged Absence Request
For those families who are requesting prearranged absences for their children, FCPS now has a form for parents to complete before the absences occur. Please find the form at the link here:
http://www.fcps.edu/it/forms/se291.pdf . When plans are made, please fill out the form as soon as possible and return to your student’s teacher. One form is needed for each student. You still need to inform your teacher and the attendance line by email of the student’s absence.
The FCPS Mobile App
FCPS has recently released a mobile app for you to use. Please take the time download the app to your iphone, ipad or Android device. Be sure to look for the official FCPS Mobile app – it’s free! Check it out here: FCPS App (Apple) or FCPS App (Android)
