Read Across America Day
March 2nd is Read Across America Day and marks the anniversary of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. To recognize this special day and to honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday, individual classrooms and grade level teams will plan theme related activities. Students may share books with reading buddies, participate in a “Read-in” with pillows and stuffed animals, enjoy a visit from a guest reader, or engage in a readers’ theater activity. Your child’s teacher may fill you in on what they are doing to recognize the day. As a school we would like to put together a binder of student generated book reviews. The binder would be housed in the library and will serve as book recommendations for library visitors throughout the school year. Many classroom teachers will ask students to write a book review in class; if you would like to have your child write a review at home, please use the attachment link. In addition to classroom reading activities, Oak Hill ES is planning a spirit day. To show “Seuss Pride” students and staff will wear “Seuss Themed” clothing. Your child may want to wear: Cat in the Hat colors of Red, White and Black, Cat in the Hat top hat, funny socks (Fox in Socks), Thing One/Thing Two shirts, or any item that would relate to a Dr. Seuss favorite book. We hope that students, staff and teachers will have fun participating in a celebration of reading!
Order Online! The deadline is March 27th. Yearbooks are $20.00 and there is a $1.47 processing fee.
IMPORTANT NOTICE- RISING 6TH Graders
Tetenas, Diphtheria, Acellular Pertussis (Tdap)
All students in Virginia must receive a booster dose of Tdap vaccine prior to entering sixth grade.
- If your child is 11 years old, he or she must get the Tdap immunization
- If your child’s 11th birthday is after the first day of school, you child must have a medical exemption from the doctor stating when he or she will receive the Tdap immunization in order to attend school.
If your child is required to have a Tdap booster, we ask that when they receive it, you provide documentation to the school as soon as possible.
The Tdap booster can be obtained from your child’s physician. Immunizations required for school are also available at the Fairfax County Health Department at no charge. Clinic locations and walk-in hours are available online at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/hd/hdclinicsite.htm.
Your prompt attention to this matter is appreciated. Sixth graders cannot begin school in the fall without documentation of having had this immunization.
Please contact the school public health nurse, Cindy Carshult at 703-326-6569, if you have any questions. Thank you for your cooperation.
