Field Day Volunteers Needed
Students of all ages look forward to our annual Field Day. Parent Volunteers are needed to setup and supervise games for this year's event, Friday, June 8th. Kindergarten will have their own mini-Field Day. Kindergarten Volunteers, CLICK HERE . Grade 1-6 Volunteers, CLICK HERE.

SOL Practice Items
Virginia Department of Education has made available Practice Items that provide a glimpse of the technology-enhanced items incorporated in the 2012 SOL exams. Greenbriar West students will only take the science and social studies exams online in 2012. No practice items are available for Virginia Studies (G4) and US History I (G6). Requires Java plug-in .

Parent Input Survey
In the May 4th Thursday folder, please look for a special “light blue” survey letter to parents. This survey letter gives you the opportunity to share information with us about your child that will assist us in the class placement process for next year. However, we do not accept requests for a particular teacher and we reserve the right to determine the final placement. If you would like to complete this form, please send it back to me no later than Friday, May 25.

Supply List for 2012-2013 School Year Available
Please see the school supply list icon at the left. GBW PTA is offering again this year school kits, prepackaged school supplies with everything on the grade level list, delivered to your child's desk at open house. Order forms went home in Thursday Folders May10th, and are due back June 1st.

New Bell Schedule
FCPS Transportation office has announced new bell schedules for next year. Greenbriar West will open and closed 5 minutes later beginning September 2012. Our new start time will be 9:20 am. Dismissal will be at 1:30 pm on Mondays, and 4:00 pm Tuesday - Friday

Greenbriar West Receives VIP Excellence Award:

Greenbriar West Elementary was recently recognized as one of only twenty-two FCPS schools meeting the qualifications to receive the 2012 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence. This award recognizes schools that have met all state and federal achievement benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and have achieved excellence goals for elementary reading. Congratulations to the students, staff and community of Greenbriar West who live up to our high standards of excellence demonstrating our school motto, Pride in School and Pride in Performance. This is the third year Greenbriar West has been honored for their performance.
