Calling All Scientists!
Are you curious about things? Do you have questions? Then this is the perfect time to get answers! Greenbriar West’s Annual Science Fair is coming up on Thursday, April 30 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Students in grades 2–6 are invited to participate and get their questions answered. If your child is interested in participating, please submit an online registration form no later than Friday, March 27.
During the week of March 2nd, the GBW Library in conjunction with Read Across America Week will present Camp Read-A-Lot! GBW students will have the opportunity to cozy up to a campfire and hear a fun story, sit in a tent and read a good book and just enjoy the school library in a new and exciting way!
SIS Parent Accounts
Greenbriar West ES is providing SIS Parent Accounts to each parent of a student at our school. This will enable access to view your student’s attendance, report card grades, and additional information, establishing another form of communication between home and school.
Each parent will receive a letter in the mail providing a web address, activation key, and directions on registering for your account. You should be looking for this letter to arrive during the week of February 23, 2015.

Calling all Kindergarteners!
We are looking for future Kindergarteners! We need your help in projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2015-16 school year, so we are searching for next year’s students! Any child who lives within our school boundaries and will be five years old on or before September 30, 2015 is eligible to attend GBW. If you know someone (within our boundaries) who has a child eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them. Please contact school registrar, Patty Li, at 703-633-6700.
Spring 2015 SOL Schedule
Students in Grades 3-6 at GBW will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests from Tuesday, May 12 to Friday, June 5. A more detailed schedule can be found here. It will be very helpful if you can avoid appointments which may take your child out of school during this time period. Thank you for your support!
AAP Center Discussion
A parent meeting was held in December to discuss the overcrowding situation at Greenbriar West Elementary School. Several students from the Brookfield Elementary School attendance area attend the Advanced Academic Program (AAP) Center at Greenbriar West. Opening an AAP Center at Poplar Tree Elementary School is a proposal being discussed as a possible solution to relieve the overcrowding at Greenbriar West. Please take a few minutes to review the information.

- Review the parent feedback that was submitted at the meeting (pdf)
A survey was sent to all parents in January to gather additional feedback.
