"I attended an ERFC breakout session during a support employee conference and my coworkers kept asking, “Why are you in this session when you are nowhere near retirement?” I told them I wanted to be ahead of the game and learn as much as I can as a younger employee so that I’m ready when my retirement comes around. I signed up that day to become an ERFC Ambassador and it has given me the opportunity to learn more about having a pension plan so that I now enjoy helping my coworkers understand the value of their ERFC benefits." |
When can I retire?

You can retire at any age if you meet the "Rule of 90." This means that the sum of your age and years worked equals 90 or more. You can also retire at Social Security age with 5 or more years worked.
Check the Social Security Benefits by year of birth.

Learn more about the VRS Hybrid Plan
- You are in the VRS Hybrid Retirement Plan if your VRS membership date began on or after January 1, 2014
- or -
- if you were a member in VRS Plan 1 or VRS Plan 2 who elected to opt into the plan during the special election window in 2014
This means that your VRS Plan consists of a Defined Benefit component (formula calculated) and a Defined Contribution component: the Hybrid 457 Deferred Compensation Plan.
To maximize your Defined Contribution retirement plan, it is advised to take advantage of the full employer matching contributions offered through your plan. Did you know that members in the hybrid plan may contribute up to 4% to the defined contribution component of the plan (in 0.5% increments) and receive up to 2.5% in employer matching contributions?
