Family Check-In Survey

The yearlong study will gather information from families, staff and students to make recommendations to the Superintendent about the strengths and areas of improvement related to teaching and learning during this unusual year.

Family Surveys School Year 2020-21

Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) Office of Research and Strategic Improvement (ORSI) is evaluating FCPS’ learning efforts this school year. The yearlong study will gather information from families, staff and students to make recommendations to the Superintendent about the strengths and areas of improvement related to teaching and learning during this unusual year.

Parent and Caregiver Surveys

As a parent in FCPS, your perspective is vital. Over the course of SY 2020-21, a combination of short check-in surveys and longer, more comprehensive surveys will be sent. All families were asked to complete the first check-in survey. Smaller samples of parents and caregivers are being asked to complete later check-ins through the year. Comprehensive surveys will be sent in the fall and spring to all families. You should expect to receive invitations to multiple surveys during the year. Please participate each time you receive an invitation so your family’s experiences and perspective can be included.

The check-in surveys are short (5-10 minutes) and responses to them are confidential. Responses to these surveys will not be used to make decisions about whether students can return to their school buildings for in-person instruction. You can find out more about the return to school plan here.

Student Surveys

Similar to the parent and caregiver surveys, students in grades 4-12 will also be surveyed. Like parents, all students will be asked to complete the comprehensive surveys, while smaller samples will be asked to complete short check-in surveys.

Survey Schedule

Both the parent and caregiver surveys and student surveys will follow the same schedule. Parents / caregivers and their students may not be surveyed for check-ins at the same time point. For example, you may receive an invitation to Check-In Survey 2 but your child may receive an invitation to Check-In Survey 3.
