As executive principal for Region I, Mr. Ray Lonnett has the skills and the abilities to increase student achievement, enhance instructional practices, and engage parents and the wider community in school partnerships. During his tenure as a school principal, Mr. Lonnett and his staff at Hutchison Elementary tackled nearly 90% poverty and the challenges faced by English Language Learners, while receiving recognition by the Virginia Department of Education for the school’s continuous improvement, eliminating achievement gaps, and securing accreditation. Prior to his appointment as principal at Hutchison, Mr. Lonnett was a leader in the Langley Pyramid where he served as both principal at Great Falls Elementary School and as assistant principal at Colvin Run Elementary School. Mr. Lonnett possesses previous central office experience where he worked as both a coordinator and as a specialist who focused on system-wide professional learning and training for FCPS employees. Mr. Lonnett was one of the original 24 instructional coaches in FCPS and worked to close the achievement gap through developing a culture of collaboration focused on results. Ray was a first, second, fifth, and sixth grade teacher and has taught in FCPS and in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Lonnett achieved a master’s degree in Pre-K -12 School Administration and Supervision from George Mason University and secured his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He resides in Fairfax County.
