Executive Principal (Interim), Region 5

Jay Pearson was appointed executive principal (interim) of Region 5 in August 2023.

Pearson brings many years of successful school-based and central office instructional leadership experience to the position. In his previous positions as an executive principal and assistant superintendent, he supported, coached, and mentored more than 80 principals and other school-based administrators in Fairfax County Public Schools. He served as principal at George C. Marshall High School for nine years from 2005-2014. 

During his 30 years in FCPS, Pearson garnered the respect and admiration of his peers for his ability to lead successful school improvement focused on the needs of all children.

Pearson's strong emphasis, focus, and experience in the work of Professional Learning Communities will support teachers, administrators, and staff, helping them achieve equity, excellence, and opportunity for all students in Region 5 schools.

Pearson earned a bachelor of arts degree in international studies and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from George Mason University. He earned a graduate certificate in administration and supervision from Johns Hopkins University.
