Helen Lloyd, APR (accreditation in public relations from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)), is the executive director of the Office of Communications and Community Relations. 

The Office of Communications and Community Relations supports parent and staff communications, partnerships, and community engagement. The office also supports the School Board and the Superintendent in their communications. Staff members use a variety of platforms including division and school newsletters, social media, websites, video, and special projects.   

Lloyd brings 14 years of experience in public relations, print, and broadcast media, including public school communications and public relations. In 2019, she was awarded a Gold Medallion by the National School Public Relations Association--the highest national award for strategic communication planning. Her communication work is equity-focused, and includes the development of creative and dynamic strategic plans around school name changes based on creating conversations around racial equity.

Lloyd worked in Alexandria City Public Schools from 2014-21 as communications specialist, director, then executive director of the Office of Communications. She worked for five years as a journalist on The London Times (UK) and also has also worked as a journalist on local newspapers and news agencies, as a news researcher for NHK (Japan) and a producer in the Japanese unit for the BBC.

Lloyd is fluent in Japanese, having taught English learners in Japan for three years. She has a master's from the University of London in Japanese History and Politics and a bachelor's from the University of Leeds.
