R Chace Ramey joined Fairfax County Public Schools as assistant superintendent of the Human Resources Department in January 2016, after serving as chief human resources officer and chief community affairs officer in the Iowa City Community School District.
In his position as head of human resources in the Iowa City Community School District, he led efforts to increase workforce diversity, streamlined the hiring process, served as chief negotiator with employee groups, initiated a wellness program, and managed the district’s early retirement program.
Previously, he served as chief of staff in the Kansas City (Mo.) School District, where he directed and coordinated projects involving internal and external constituents in a district of 16,500 students and 2,000 employees. Ramey was responsible for developing the second phase of the district’s transformation plan to guide the district’s work over the next three years, initiated a community cabinet for the superintendent, and served as the chief negotiator for collective bargaining agreements. He also served as the legislative liaison for the district, creating increased advocacy on education issues at the state and federal levels. In addition, Ramey served as chief legal counsel for the Kansas City School District.
Ramey has served as an adjunct assistant professor in the College of Education, University of Iowa, and as an associate at law firms in Kansas City, Mo., and Overland Park, Kan. He has served on the board of directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County (Mo.) and YouthFriends (Mo.); and as a member of 100+ Men Who Care, Hawkeye Chapter, and United Way of Johnson County, Iowa Campaign Cabinet.
A graduate of the University of Kansas, Ramey earned his juris doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law, and his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Iowa College of Education.
