Angela Atwater is the Region 4 Assistant Superintendent. She provides leadership and supervision, and serves as an administrative advocate for the 36 schools within the geographic regions of the Lake Braddock, West Springfield, South County, Centreville, and Robinson school communities.
Atwater’s experience as a school administrator in three major school divisions in the Northern Virginia area has provided her with the skills to manage the comprehensive, county-wide set of responsibilities. She brings experience in communication, budgeting, and time-management, as well as an ability to develop effective working relationships with school and department staffs, government leaders, outside advocacy groups, and community members to Region 4.
During her tenure as a principal in Loudoun County, she worked with a group of teachers, parents, support staff, central office staff, and students, to open Liberty Elementary, which offered a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program that became a model for other schools to follow. It developed students who were creative and critical thinkers and provided ongoing professional, systemic development for teachers.
Atwater, the first person in her family to attend college, earned her doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech. She and her husband are committed to raising their five sons with a growth mind-set and expectation that attending college is the next step after completing high school.
