School Psychology Internship

Fairfax County Public Schools offers a rigorous and comprehensive internship program for training psychologists.

Internship Announcement for the 2024-25 Scholastic Year

Fairfax County Public Schools will sponsor internships in school psychology for the 2024-25 scholastic year. We anticipate funding to support three full-time, one-year appointments, and we invite applicants for Master’s or Doctoral-level placements.

Fairfax County Public Schools offers a rigorous and comprehensive internship program for training psychologists. We are a large and diverse community of learning located in Northern Virginia near Washington, DC. With over 170 psychologists and 218 schools, centers, and alternative programs we are able to provide interns with a broad range of professional and cultural experiences.

Our goal is to prepare interns as mental-health professionals whose practice will reflect our commitment to the Model for Comprehensive and Integrated School Psychological Services practice model published by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) www.nasponline.org. NASP has awarded the FCPS School Psychology program with its Exemplary level recognition for excellence. In consultation with university faculty, we identify a primary supervisor with whom the intern will train throughout the year. To complement this placement, we offer interns the opportunity to work in specialty rotations, one per quarter (e.g., centers for students with emotional disabilities, severe disabilities, hearing impairments, autism, etc.) depending on the interests, assets, and goals of the intern. We also provide opportunities for the intern to engage in training and research. Upon successful completion of the internship, we welcome interns’ application for employment with Fairfax County Public Schools. Compensation for the intern includes individual and group supervision, in-service training, and a stipend of $30,000 (without other benefits).

A summary of the application procedures and timelines are below. The deadline for receipt of the complete application packet is Friday, December 1, 2023.
