Stay Informed and Up-to-Date

Schoology

Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a safe forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized and it keeps the class connected.

Parent Accounts

A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:

• Your child’s classes.
• Your child’s upcoming assignments.
• School, class, and group announcements.

Parent accounts will be available in mid-August. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account. Make sure you have registered for a SIS/ParentVUE account.

Emergency Information - Please Update

Make sure your cell phone numbers are listed in the parent/guardian contact information section on the emergency care information form for each of your children. Parents and guardians can view and update emergency contact information online using weCare@school. 

Contact information provided automatically enrolls parents to receive eNotify communications from the district and their child’s school.  eNotify is the communications tool for FCPS emergencies, delays or school closings, if buses are running more than 30 minutes late, if your student missed the morning attendance deadline, and for other important reminders. 

eNotify messages are sent via e-mail, telephone, and SMS. Standard message and data charges may apply for text messages depending on your cell phone service plan. More about text messages is available online.

weCare also helps manage emergency medical information by enabling parents to enter and update their children’s Health Information Form at their convenience online.  

Newsletters - Sign Up  

Sign up for subscription-based, email communications to stay informed about all things school and FCPS.  Parents can subscribe to a variety of newsletters on topics such as: 

• Your local school news.
• Division-wide news (FCPS This Week).
• Advanced academic programs.
• Career and technical education.
• Parent resource center.
• Special education.

News You Choose is the tool is used for the distribution of non-critical communications such as newsletters, events, and news updates.

Attendance

Parents can log into the Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account to view your child's attendance. For additional support with accessing and using the SIS Parent Account visit our SIS Parent Account overview page.

School attendance is important to student success. Did you know that:

• Regular school attendance in elementary school improves the chances that your child will read on grade level? 
• Students who attend 90% or more of the school year are more likely to graduate from high school on time?

Resources

Buses

FCPS is committed to safely transporting our students to school and school activities each day. To ensure this goal, bus schedules are mailed to families in August. Learn more about transportation. To keep up-to-date with bus delays, you can check the Here Comes the Bus (HCtB) app or FCPS School Bus Delays website for potential delays. e-Notify (School Messenger) email messages will also be sent to announce significant bus delays. For additional support, find the Transportation Services contact specific to your school. For any concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.

FCPS partners with the Fairfax Count Police Department to distribute information about safe driving in school zones and near school buses.

Meals

The federal government pandemic program to provide no-cost meals to all public school students has ended. This school year, parents have three options for school meals:

• Provide students with money to purchase meals at school (breakfast costs $1.75, lunch is $3.25 for elementary students and $3.50 for middle, secondary, and high school students)
• Send students to school with a packed lunch,
• Apply (and be approved) for free and reduced-price meals benefits.  

The best way to purchase meals (and additional food items) is to use MySchoolBucks. Set up your student’s MySchoolBucks account online. If you have questions about MySchoolBucks, your school’s front office staff can help. Learn more on the student meals webpage.

Technology

All FCPS students are issued a laptop or tablet for no fee. For additional information on caring for the device, please review the Student Device Responsible Use Guidelines. 

Each school has a Technology Support Specialist (TSSpec: pronounced T-speck) that provides support to the staff and students for FCPS devices at that school. If your child has a technology issue with his/her assigned FCPS device while at school, he/she can alert the teacher or visit the TSSpec’s office. If your child is having a technology issue with the FCPS device at home, please visit the Technology Support for Families page, where you can find tips for common problems or enter a support request ticket for your child. 

The 2022-23 Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) document includes information about the responsible use of technology. Please log on to your SIS ParentVue account and sign to acknowledge review of the SR&R OR sign and return the SR&R form to your child’s school by September 30, 2022.

Health and Safety

Immunizations

Appointments are required for most immunization clinics. Don’t wait until the last minute when you might not be able to find an appointment. Visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of clinics or schedule with your family’s health care provider.

Immunizations are required for public school entry and help keep students protected from serious diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood immunizations over recent years because of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and ready for school. Check with your students’ health care providers now to make sure they are up to date on their immunizations.

Remember to request documentation of your child’s immunizations to provide to their school. More information on immunization requirements and the necessary documentation is available online.

COVID-19 Testing

COVID-19 diagnostic testing is available at no cost for all currently enrolled FCPS students and current employees. Diagnostic testing is provided at designated times and locations for those who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.

FCPS shares updates regarding COVID-19 cases that have been self-reported to us that have impacted our division, both at school sites and central office locations. 

Health and Safety Guidance Document

The Health and Safety Guidance Document for 2022-23 provides guidance regarding school health and safety practices. The daily health screening questionnaires are available in all languages.

Funding

Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) III - Plan for Safe Return - The purpose of the ESSER III Fund is to help schools maintain the safe operation of schools and to address the impacts of COVID-19, such as students' academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. This plan describes how Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will maintain the health and safety of students, educators, and other school and division staff during and following the return to full in-person instruction. 

New to FCPS? Register!

Children turning 5 on or before September 30 should be registered for kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year. All kindergarten programs are full-day and located in FCPS elementary schools.

New to the area? Now is the time for all new students to be registered. 

Students should be registered at the school they will be attending. A boundary locator is available online, along with a list of required documents, and additional help for military families, families who need language assistance, and other forms of support.
