School Resource Officer Annual Program Review, School Year 2020-21

SRO Annual Program Review

The annual School Resource Officer (SRO) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) review from the 2020-21 school year has been prepared with reports posted below for review. Future steps include using the data to develop targeted outreach to school communities in need of additional supports. The Fairfax County School Board and members of FCPS leadership anticipate additional discussions around data analysis at a future date.

In July 2018 the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and School Board approved a revised MOU between the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) and Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). The MOU established an annual review to determine success of established goals and objectives as defined by the MOU.

As part of this annual review, FCPD has collected data from its SROs regarding their activity in schools for the third time. The drastic changes in school delivery for the 2020-21 school year make many comparisons to past data difficult. Upon the switch to partial in-person schooling on March 9, 2021, SROs were deployed to their school assignments, putting SROs physically in schools for approximately three (3) months. All principals have certified that they have not involved SROs to provide assistance with administrative functions outside the scope of the MOU. The information below provides specifics on the review.

Additional information on this collaborative effort between the FCPD and FCPS can be found on the Fairfax County Police Department web page.
