If you were an FCPS full-time educational, administrative, or support employee with 5 or more years of Credited Service who previously terminated employment with FCPS prior to your Service Retirement Date, you are an ERFC Deferred Vested Member. ERFC is your supplemental defined benefit retirement plan and you are eligible to receive a deferred vested pension commencing at:

  • Legacy:
    • Reduced at Age 55
    • Unreduced at Age 65
  • 2001 Tier 1: Age 60
  • 2001 Tier 2: SS Age or Rule of 90 (Years of Service + Age = 90)

Your ERFC retirement benefit supplements the primary benefits you will earn from the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) and Social Security.

Members and beneficiaries must apply in writing to ERFC in order to receive benefits to which they are entitled. To retire with ERFC, log in to  ERFCDirect (ERFC.Direct) to locate the required documentation. Members must submit a retirement application (ERFC 22A for Legacy members and ERFC 22B for 2001 members), direct deposit (ERFC 3), and required personal identifying documentation (Social Security card and birth certificate; REAL ID; Virginia driver's license or identification card; or passport) to receive their benefits.

Additionally, federal and state taxes (Virginia only) will be withheld upon commencing your pension. The tax withholding form(s) are located below under “ERFC Deferred Vested Member Forms" and must be submitted to ERFC by mail or email no later than the 15th of the month prior to your date of retirement. If you don’t supply the form(s) on time, ERFC will withhold tax from your pension payments according to the default tax withholding rules.

ERFC does not provide tax advice. Please consult your tax advisor if you need assistance in completing the tax withholding form(s).

If a member or beneficiary does not apply for benefits on the date at which he or she becomes eligible, benefits will not commence until the ERFC office receives the required documentation and can be retroactively paid provided it does not exceed 90 days from the date of application.
