October 23 Letter from Region 1 Assistant Superintendent Douglas Tyson

Update on name recommendation

Dear Mosby Woods Community,

I want to update you on the process to rename Mosby Woods Elementary School.

At the School Board meeting last night, Superintendent Brabrand offered his recommendations for a new name for Mosby Woods Elementary School:

Katherine Johnson, Five Oaks, Mary McBride, Barbara Rose Johns, and Mosaic.

These are suggested names, however, the School Board has the authority to select a name that is not on this list.

The Fairfax County School Board voted to take action on October 8, 2020 to change the name of Mosby Woods Elementary School as outlined in Regulation 8170.8.

We are now beginning the public comment period. During this time period, a community meeting and public hearing will be scheduled to collect additional feedback from the community before the School Board takes action on the new name of the school.
