October 23 Letter from Region 1 Assistant Superintendent Douglas Tyson
Update on Superintendent Name Recommendation
Dear Mosby Woods Community,
I want to update you on the process to rename Mosby Woods Elementary School.
At the School Board meeting last night, Superintendent Brabrand offered his recommendations for a new name for Mosby Woods Elementary School:
Katherine Johnson, Five Oaks, Mary McBride, Barbara Rose Johns, and Mosaic.
These are suggested names, however, the School Board has the authority to select a name that is not on this list.
We are now beginning the public comment period. During this time period, a community meeting and public hearing will be scheduled to collect additional feedback from the community before the School Board takes action on the new name of the school.
A community meeting will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 6 p.m. Please register to receive a link to attend the meeting and indicate if you need an interpreter.
The format will include information on the Superintendent’s recommendation and small group discussion to provide feedback on two questions:
- Do you support the Superintendent’s name recommendation?
- If not, what name do you suggest and why?
The meeting will be available for viewing online or on Ch. 99. The feedback will be collected and posted on the website.
Students, parents, staff and community members are also invited to send comments to Region1admin@fcps.edu.
A School Board public hearing on the name recommendation is scheduled for Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 6 p.m. Anyone who wishes to speak at the public hearing is invited to sign up to speak. Information on citizen participation.
The School Board will take action to approve the new name of the elementary school on Thursday, December 3, 2020.
Douglas A. Tyson
Assistant Superintendent, Region 1
