Highlights from the October 10, 2019 Regular School Board Meeting

The October 10, 2019, regular meeting of the School Board opened with a performance of the National Anthem  by the Oakton High School Orchestra under the direction of Max Oppenheimer.


The School Board honored and acknowledged 400 Years of African American History in Virginia.


The Board read a resolution honoring the Junior Achievement of Greater Washington’s Sipsy Team.  The team created a non-toxic metal reusable straw to help eliminate plastic waste and was awarded Best Commercial and Most Sales at the 2019 Junior Achievment Trade Show.


The Board also recognized LGBT History Month, Disability Employment and Awareness Month, National School Bus Safety Week, and National School Lunch Week.


Assistant Superintendent of Financial Services Leigh Burden presented the Strategic Plan Goal 4 Resource Stewardship report.


Director of Government Relations Michael Molloy presented the 2020 FCSB State and Federal Legislative Program.


The School Board approved the revisions to Policy 8170- Naming School Facilities and Dedicating Areas of School Facilities or Grounds.


The next regular business meeting of the School Board will be on Thursday, October 24, 2019.
