Woodson HS Students View Mercury in Transit
Woodson High students got an excellent view of Mercury as it traveled across the sun. Astronomy teacher Casey Milligan and Ralph Marple, a member of the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club, worked together to help students view the rare event. Two sun projector scopes, designed for viewing the sun in the sky, focused on Mercury. Students saw how a tiny planet such as Mercury compared to the immensity of the sun. The students learned that the next possible viewing of a Mercury transit across the sun will occur in North America in 2049. Contact news liaison Joan Brown at email@example.com.
