FCPS announces the appointment of two new principals.

Carlyn Floyd has been named principal of Woodson High School, effective Monday, October 2. Floyd, a veteran educator with 21 years of experience in Fairfax County Public Schools, began her educational career at Woodson as an instructional assistant. She worked as a teacher at Quander Road High and Twain Middle before being named special education department chair at Centreville High. Floyd served as a LEAD Fairfax administrative intern at Edison High as well as assistant principal at Herndon High and Lanier Middle. In 2011, Floyd was named principal at Quander Road and was named the FCPS Outstanding First Year Principal in 2012. She currently serves as director of student services at Woodson. Floyd is also a part-time member of the instructional faculty at George Mason University at the master’s and doctoral levels. A graduate of Mary Washington College (now the University of Mary Washington), Floyd earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. Additionally, she holds a master’s in education and human development; an educational specialist degree in policy, leadership, and special education; and a doctorate in education, all from George Washington University.

 

Chris Larrick has been named principal of Bryant Alternative High, effective September 5. Larrick has more than 26 years of experience as an educator and most recently served as principal of Key Middle School. Prior to accepting administrative positions, he worked as a guidance counselor at Mount Vernon High and Sandburg Middle Schools, and as a teacher at Whitman Middle School. Larrick is known for his passion for ensuring all students achieve their fullest potential. He earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and history from Old Dominion University and a master’s in education in counseling from Virginia Tech. Larrick earned his doctorate in administration and supervision from the University of Virginia, and holds a Virginia professional license in K-12 administration and supervision.
