FCPS announces the appointment of two new principals.
Jim Patrick, currently serving as director of student activities at Lake Braddock Secondary School, has been named the new principal of Longfellow Middle, effective August 3. At McLean High, he served for eight years as a social studies and physical education teacher, assistant director of student activities, and director of student activities. He moved to Lake Braddock in 2018 as director of student activities, supporting students in grades 7-12 with academics, athletics, and all extra-curricular programs. He began his career as a social studies teacher in Prince William County Public Schools. Patrick also serves as an adjunct professor at George Mason University. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in history and education from the University of Rhode Island, a masters of education degree from Virginia Tech, and a doctor of education degree in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech.
Sarah Aiello, who currently serves as principal at Spring Hill Elementary, has been selected as the new principal of Hutchison Elementary, effective August 10. Aiello began her career and emerged as a teacher leader at Dogwood Elementary, Pine Spring Elementary, and Glasgow Middle. She transitioned to the administrative path in 2011 when she was appointed assistant principal at Hughes Middle. During her tenure she served and supervised the special education, English for speakers of other languages, and science departments. Aiello was instrumental in the integration of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) curriculum. In 2016, she became assistant principal at Hutchison Elementary, and was a significant contributor to the school gaining full accreditation. Aiello earned a bachelor of arts in education from Mercyhurst College (Penn.) and a master of education in educational leadership from Virginia Tech.
