Welcome to the New Principal at Burke School 7-9-19
Deborah Strayhorn, currently serving as an assistant principal at Lake Braddock Secondary School, has been named principal of Burke School, effective July 8. Prior to beginning her career with FCPS, Strayhorn was a special education department chair in Department of Defense Schools in Rota, Spain. She began her FCPS career as a teacher at the former Stuart High School (now Justice High School), where she taught until her appointment as assistant principal at Madison High School. During her career, Strayhorn has served in several administrative roles including assistant principal, principal, acting coordinator, and associate principal. While serving in these positions, she has supervised instructional programs, created master schedules, organized staff development to support instructional initiatives, managed financial resources, and established and designed a special education reading initiative. For the past eight years, she supervised the special education department at Lake Braddock. Strayhorn earned her B.A. at Colgate University and her M.A. at State University of New York at New Paltz.
