Two Schools Win Regional Competitions for 2019 National Science Bowl

Teams of students from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) and Carson Middle School have won their regional competitions for the 2019 National Science Bowl, and will advance to the national finals in late April in Washington, D.C. The National Science Bowl is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. TJHSST and Carson Middle School are Fairfax County public schools.

Carson Middle team members are Om Duggineni, Deccan Maniam, Srihan Kotnana, Ilanchezian Palpandian, and Akshat Alok.

TJHSST team members are Wenbo Wu, Kaien Yang, Daniel Fu, William Xu, and Yoseph Mak.

The National Science Bowl challenges students to compete in a fast-paced question-and-answer format to solve technical problems and answer questions on a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth and space science, physics, and math. 

The top 16 finishers in the high school and the middle school divisions will win $1,000 for their schools’ science departments.  Prizes for the top two high school teams will be announced later.
