News Release
March 25, 2020

Eighteen Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students earned 19 national medals in the 2020 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program. National medalists will be celebrated at an award ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June. Select national award-winning work will be included in an exhibition in New York, as well as a traveling exhibition over the coming year.

One student—Morgan Rogers of Oakton High School—won an American Visions Medal as well as a Gold Medal for her painting titled, “What Can I Do?”  Two additional FCPS students also earned Gold Medals: Renae Knisely of Chantilly High School in the photography category, and Colin Page of Falls Church High School in the video game category.

A complete list of winners can be found below.

Established in 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, is the largest, longest-running recognition program of its kind in the United States. Visual arts categories include architecture, art portfolio, ceramics and glass, comic art, design, digital art, drawing, editorial cartoon, fashion, film and animation, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video game design. More than 300,000 students participate in the program across the country.
