South Lakes JROTC Plans Tutoring, Mentoring Program
The student leaders of the South Lakes High JROTC program recently held their first quarter command and staff briefing where they outlined their goals and plans for the year. In alignment with the school’s improvement program, the group plans to create its own tutoring program to help decrease achievement gaps, help reduce absences by taking promotion points from students who are tardy, and establish a mentoring program—Battle Buddies—to help students identify their own leadership style. South Lakes JROTC students plan to continue their tradition of providing a Veterans Day dinner to area veterans on Friday, November 16, from 4-7:30 pm at the Reston Community Center ballroom. Cadets are also planning to volunteer at the Reston-Herndon Relay for Life next May, benefitting the American Cancer Society. Their goal is to involve the entire school and raise $4,500.
