South Lakes IB Art Students Take Part in Visual Art Assessment
South Lakes High held its International Baccalaureate (IB) Art exhibition, part of the students’ visual art assessment. Art department chair Matt Ravenstahl said, “The other two parts of the visual art assessment—the comparative study and process portfolio—involve critical analysis, reflection, and documentation of personal artwork and the artwork of significant artists. The exhibition is the formal display of artwork by each candidate of the work they feel represents them most effectively in both quality and concept. In order to submit the exhibition for assessment, each student must physically exhibit their work, photographs of the artwork, and submit written statements that describe the conceptual exploration of the work and the rationale for the curatorial decisions the student made in exhibiting their work. The IB art assessment is very lengthy and intense but also very rewarding in many ways. The development of the IB art students and the exhibition is a team effort of the entire visual art department. “ Contact news liaison Emily Burrell at firstname.lastname@example.org.
